KwaraPoly C.C.E Presents Award of Excellence to Ex-Directors, Principal Officers of the Polytechnic

The Center for Continuing Education, Kwara State Polytechnic on Thursday presented award of excellence to Former Directors of the center and Principal Officer of the Polytechnic at their Maiden Lecture and Award of Excellence held at the polytechnic auditorium. 


In his opening remark, The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Jimoh Abdul commended the effort of the committee for organizing such program, adding that they have been an outstanding center in the polytechnic. 


He furthered described the Center for Continuing Education, Kwara State Polytechnic as a mini KwaraPoly as they are the only center that deals with all students apart from the Institute of General Studies (IGS). 


Engr. Jimoh, who encouraged the C.C.E to keep the good work up also challenged other directors in the institution to also come up with distinguished initiatives that will portrays the image of the Polytechnic to the outside world in a better way. 


Responding to the Guest Lecturer request about the polytechnic engaging in virtual  classes, the rector said the Open Distance Flexible E-Learning (ODFEL) will commence fully after the end of the session, adding that they have gained their accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education and will enhance their online engagement. 


He also added that the management has made provisions for engineering students in the polytechnic by partnering with some bodies as for them to acquire a year training after their national diploma. 


Earlier in his welcoming address, the Director, Center for Continuing Education, Dr. Kola Babaita, appreciated all present at the event, saying that their presence has graced the event. 


The Guest Speaker of the occasion, who enlightened the students, Staff of the Polytechnic and others present at the event on the”Perspectives, Challenges and Prospects of Part-Time Studies in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions”, Professor Sanni Mubaraq said various institutions across Nigeria are operating Part-Time programs which according to him has high demand. 


Highlighting advantages of the program, the professor listed that it is a means of generating revenue for the institution, assist in human developing, promotes social integration and networking amongst other benefits. 


Prof. Sanni criticized that the program often lack qualified lecturers and it is inferior compared to the full-time program. 


He added that there is also no regulatory bodies to protect the interest of the learners unlike the full-time students, adding that the duration and the entry qualification of the program also needs to be attended to. 


In his conclusions, he said the program needed strategies to enhance it, introduction of virtual education, widen the net to accommodate more science and technology courses and to also focus on how to contribute to quality education. 


The Professor however enjoined the management of the Polytechnic to introduce virtual learning for the part-time students, adding that they can also operate the mix mode. 


Former C.C.E Directors that were awarded the award of excellence includes; Professor E.T Otunola (1990-1994), Late Dr. Emmanuel Bolaji, represented by his wife, Mrs. Caroline Bolaji (1994-1998), Chief James Ogunyemi Ogunshola (1998-2000), Daudu Gbagede, Alhaji Olayinka Ibrahim(1991-2000), Former Deputy Rector (acad.) Dr. Mrs. Habibat Adams, and Mrs. Ajibade Olubunmi Olayinka (2006-till date). 


Principal Officers awarded also includes; The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Jimoh Abdul Muhammed, the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. I.S Adedoyin, Deputy Rector (Academic), Alh. AbdulRahman Isack and the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Sheye. 


Also at the event, Mr. Ibrahim Alakoso Kayode was awarded the best C.C.E Coordinator. 


Dignitaries present at the event were, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, The Chairman Governing Council and members, Kwara State Polytechnic. 


Others includes Directors of Institute, Director, Director, Directorate of Student Service, Head of Departments, students of the Polytechnic among others.
