Gov Sanwo-Olu announces salary increase for Lagos State workers

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced an increase in salaries for over 100,000 public workers in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, who did not confirm the increment, promised it would be above the Federal Government’s minimum wage standard.

He also promised to pay all the outstanding backlog of pensions to workers by the end of October.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed these on Tuesday while speaking to a large crowd of workers who converged on the Head of Service, HOS’ office in Alausa, Ikeja, during his working visit.

He said: “We know there is inflation and high cost of living in the country, but we are determined to cushion the effects on our workers and residents.

“Last month (September), I instructed the Head of Service, HoS, the Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions to work out modalities for a salary increase for the entire over 100,000 of public service workforce.

“We are capable of doing this. Lagos leads while others follow in Nigeria. In salary increment, we are leading again.

“We are going to reflect the popular ‘Buga’ slogan in the payment of salaries. We are not going to wait for the Federal Government’s minimum wage increase.

“We have commenced the process. I can assure that by early next year it will be ready for implementation.

“We don’t want to wait for workers’ unions to hold us to ransom before we do the needful.”

THE PLACE OF A MOTHER

By: Olufadi Balarabe Ayuba. Let her know the day she was born nakedly beautiful with tears of joy rolling down her stunningly soft cheeks.  Let her know the day she had enough words to say but could only speak through the inexhaustible care of her beloved mother.  Let her know those days she could not by herself take some walks down the road, but could comfortably tour the entire city tied on her mother's back. Let her know those days when she had to cry all night before she could answer nature's call, except lullabies were sung to ease her trips.  Let her know the days she couldn't bathe herself, compelling her mother to wake up early, warm the water, and ignore her refusal to take a bath every morning!  Let her know the day she couldn't do makeovers to beautify herself, as her mother took center stage to apply "Dusting Powder" to introduce the beauty of her Darling Princess to the world.  Let her know the days when all others had forsaken, except...
