KWHA appeals to state govt on the reconstruction and expansion of damage bridges across state

The Kwara State House of Assembly has appealed to the Kwara State Government to direct the Ministry of Works and Transport to reconstruct and expand damaged bridges across the state to halt flood related accidents.


This was part of the resolutions of the House after considering a Matter of General Public Importance titled "Expansion, Reconstruction and Barricades of some bridges in across the state" raised by  Honourable Jimoh Ali-Yusuf representing Ilorin East Constituency.


Honourable Ali-Yusuf specifically identified Sobi-Akanlabi-Abatoir bridge as a death trap that has led to loss lives including a Popular Islamic Scholar, Shaikh Abdulganeey Zul Nurain- Aboto.

Some Lawmakers in their contributions, Hon. Abdulrazaq Owolabi representing Share Oke-Ode Constituency and Olumide Awolola of Isin Constituency cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and advocated persistent inspection of bridges during dry season to ascertain the ones to be reconstructed to guard against flood.


Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker, hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu tasked the Ministry of Works to install roads signs and barricades in the affected roads and urged Kwarans to be safety cautious to prevent disaster  


The House also received the report of Auditor General For Local Governments in the General Purpose Financial Statements Cash Basis  of the Sixteen Local Governments in Kwara State for the year Twenty Twenty-One and referred  to House Committee on Public Accounts for further legislative action.
