The Kwara government begins repair of N3.7billion poorly constructed Geri Alimi underpass


Kwara state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed that repair work should be undertaken at the damaged Geri Alimi Diamond Underpass in Ilorin, the state capital.


the underpass project which was initiated under former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed costs about N3.7 billion.


It was gather that the project was delivered few months to the end of his administration in 2019, the underpass was poorly constructed.


The new administration of Governor AbdulRazaq had to shut the underpass which was showing cracks few months after it was delivered.


Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi expressed dissatisfaction at the shoddy work done by the contractor who was ordered back on site.


Three years after, the underpass that gulped billions of taxpayers money has become an eyesore.


Engr Abdullahi Sule who visited the site independently said that there is no damp proof on the retaining wall and also no stone base under the asphalt.


The ministry of work has however commenced repair of the damaged part of the road which is an entry point for travellers.


Meanwhile, residents and passersby have continued to lambast the previous administration for wasting public funds on such a project that couldn't stand the test of time.


They described the previous administration as incompetent, noting that they left abandoned and shoddy projects across the state which the new government has been fixing.
