The Department of Library and Information Science (LIS), Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is organizing a seminar and workshop to create and promote the awareness, understanding and importance of the course.

The event which is themed: "Opportunities And Beauty Of Librarianship" is aimed at instigating the students on the importance of the course and having knowledge on how to make use of various retrieving tools in librarianship.

The Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Shuaib Olarongbe, while highlighting the benefit of the course affirmed that LIS is not only beyond keeping books in the library, but also a professional course as other courses in the institute.

While urging admission-seekers to develop an interest in the course and students to be passionate and proud of undergoing the course, stressing that individuals interested in an LIS career track can pursue a variety of positions, including (but not limited to) academic librarian, law librarian, school librarian, data curator, instruction librarian, and emerging technology librarian.

“I want to implore everyone to dive into the realm of librarianship and be equipped with an array of powerful retrieving tools. This will give you the opportunity to learn to navigate databases, explore digital resources, harness the magic of information retrieval and empower yourself with skills that open countless doors to knowledge,” he added.

However, students and members of the general public are invited to grace the occasion slated to hold on the 30th of May, 2023 which is the first of its kind since the accreditation of the department.
