The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr Abdul Jimoh Muhammad has charged the newly inaugurated Legislative Arms of the Students Union Government (SUG)to be faithful to the oath they took and to the assignment given to them.
The Rector, who was represented by the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Issac Salami Adedoyin, gave the charge on Tuesday, during the swearing in of the Students Representatives Council (SRC), at the Rear Admiral Mohammed Alabi Lawal Auditorium, Kwara State Polytechnic.
The Deputy Rector who congratulated the law makers, also encouraged them to make the interest of the students and management paramount to them as they are in the position of trust.
Also in his advise, the Registrar, Dr. Kolawole Sheye Akande preached to the body to maintain harmonious relation between the other arms of government in the institution.
The Librarian, Dr. Shuaib Agboola Olarongbe who also congratulated the members for their induction, advised them not to lose focus in their primary duty, adding that as they represent the interest of the student, they should not forget what they are in the polytechnic for.
He furthered advised them not to be in loggerheads with the management and should rather try to canvass, also challenged them to look for people that can add value to the system.
In his Opening Speech, The Director, Directorate of Student Services, Dr. Bolakale Saheed Ajadi, advised the students legislative arms to make sure that all their activities continue to promote the peace and stability the Polytechnic has sustained and has been enjoying over the years.
He furthered reminded the arms of the SUG that from the five sitting they are authorized and bound by the constitution to have, they had the first sitting, encouraged them to have the remaining in the interest of the students.
Earlier in his Remarks, the Speaker, Student Union Government (SUG) RT. HON. Ogundeji Jamiu Babatunde commended the Polytechnic Management for not for not denying the Students their right of Establishing Unionism and the Executive Arms for fighting for the interest of the students, adding that the Legislative arms will also work in line with them to achieve their goals.
The Speaker who appreciated the students for having trust in him, also assured them that every vow they had made will become part of them and will be a guidance to them in all action and activities they embark on in the future.
In her Vote of Thanks, the Clerk, Hon. Fathia Olayinka Lawal, appreciated the management, staff and students of the Polytechnic for heaving the event, prayed for them journey mercy on their way back home.
