Artisanship Summit: Kwarapoly IICT Legislative body empower students with sowing machine, electric oven, others

As part of their efforts in reducing financial instabilities amongst students, the Students Parliamentary Council (SPC), Information and Communication Technology Students Association (ICTSA), Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has empowered some students of the institute with some start up kits in their respective workmanship.
The body made the donation to selected four (4) students from the institute on Thursday in a program tagged “Artisanship Summit”, held at Professor Wright Conference Hall, Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin.
In his speech, the Speaker, Information and Communication Technology Students Association (ICTSA), Rt. Hon. Lekan Tajudeen who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Shifau Ololade Olanrewaju, said she believed that with the tools provided, it will be a life changers to their financial capabilities as students and afterwards.
She expressed disappointment that they could not get all the items they needed due to limited funds, adding that they ensure that all the things gotten for the students are items that are important in their fields and they can start already if truly they are ready to work.
The Speaker encouraged the students to always participate in any program organized on their behalf, saying that it is their right as the management of the institution has made provision for the Students Union body to organize activities that will benefit students, projects that will aid the department progress and the likes.
The Parliamentarian however advised other students Union body that they should avoid unnecessary repetition of programs and activities.
“We all keep investing in a single program as laid down by our predecessors which can not bring about the great change required, let update our project syllabus. Other institutions compete with their management in fostering the development of their campuses and making impact in the lives of their students and the community”.
In his remark the Special Guest of Honor, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the empowerment is a lifetime opportunity, advised the students to make judicious use of it and to also make sure to give back to their community with the little they have and should not wait till they have more than enough.
In his address, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Jamiu Adanla, lamented that most students has desist from entrepreneurship activities, adding that many of them has relied too much on white collar job.
He therefore advised that student should pay more attention to entrepreneurship and should see it as an opportunity that change lives for better.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Raji A.K, said he has not witnessed such event in the institution, saying it is a commendable effort by the legislative body.
The beneficiaries are; Agbejo Titilayo from the Department of Mass Communication, an ODFEL student who is doing catering Service , and was given an electric Oven, Hammed Sekinat Mass Communication, a Fashion designer was given a complete sowing machine, ALIU Taiwo Azeez Office and Technology Management, a Painter and was given paint, painting brush, rollers, safety jacket, and lastly Adekunle Adeola from Computer science who is a Makeup Artist and was given make up tools.
In their responses, the beneficiaries commended the effort of the law making body for the life changing opportunities, promised to make judicious use of the items.
