Court Orders Seizure Of CBN Property Over Judgment Debt

A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, the state capital, has ordered the seizure of a vehicle belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over a suit between John Eche Okpe, a legal practitioner, and the apex bank. The writ attachment ordered by Justice N.D. Shaseet was signed by the registrar, and the property seized is an Innoson IVM Double Cabin vehicle with the registration number KUJ696DD. In the case, with number PLD/J397/m/2023, Okpe had obtained judgment against the Federal Government and some of its agencies and sought to enforce the judgment via garnishee proceedings against the CBN. The garnishee order nisi is to the tune of N10m as made absolute by the judge on November 1, 2023. The notice indicated that since giving the order, the Central Bank of Nigeria had refused to comply, necessitating the property seizure. Tinubu addressing challenges arising from reforms, says presidential aide

President Bola Tinubu is already taking measures to address the challenges brought about by the reforms introduced by the administration in all sectors of the economy. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, adding that more such measures would be taken in 2024. Electricity disruption nationwide caused by shutdown of Egbin Power Plant – IED

Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IED) has explained why some parts of Lagos State and by extension, nationwide is experiencing power supply disruption. The Nation learnt Egbin Power Station, one of the largest thermal power stations in the country, has been temporarily shut down to facilitate maintenance work on a crucial gas pipeline. The Egbin power station is located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state and supplies around 16% of the total electricity to the National Grid. The shutdown, commenced at 11:13 hours on December 18, 2023, is expected to last for three days, causing a substantial reduction in the national power grid’s capacity. High transportation cost: FG’ll grant waivers to air, road, rail transport operators — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday, December 18, said the federal government is taking measures to alleviate the high cost of transportation by granting waivers to operators in the air, road, and rail transportation systems. President Tinubu gave the assurance during a meeting with members of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), who paid him a visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the consideration was as a result of the challenges faced by travellers during the festive season. Japa: Over 1,000 Nigerians fell victims of fake UK jobs, says IOM

The United Nations Migration Agency, International Organisation for Migration, said more than 1,000 Nigerians have fallen victim to scams involving foreign job opportunities in the United Kingdom. This was as it advised Nigerians to seek proper information before embarking on any migration. IOM’s Chief of Mission, Laurent De Boeck, disclosed these at a news conference on Monday in Abuja. “Collaborating with the Federal Government of Nigeria, IOM facilitated the return of 4,431 Nigerians and supported their reintegration. A total of 2,853 individuals received reintegration assistance, engaging in socio-economic opportunities of their choice. “IOM’s Migration Health efforts in 2023, including over 260,000 Pre-Departure Medical Health Assessments diagnosing and referring 166 migrants with TB, administering 15,000 vaccine doses, and renovating three public hospitals, exemplified the organization’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare,” he stated. No treatment for Dengue fever, exercise caution — NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has said there is no specific treatment available for the dengue fever. It, therefore, urged Nigerians, especially people living in Sokoto, to take preventive measures against the virus. The NCDC had on Saturday confirmed the outbreak of dengue fever in Sokoto State. “Available data shows that prevention and control of dengue virus infection depend on vector control. There is no specific treatment for dengue, however, early detection and prompt initiation of supportive treatment have been shown to significantly reduce death,” the NCDC said on its website. Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus and transmitted to humans through the infected mosquito’s bite. Human-to-human transmission of the virus has not been established. EFCC seeks law to seize unexplained wealth

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ola Olukoyede, has called for legislation against unexplained wealth, as a way of checking the criminal activities of treasury looters in the country. The EFCC spokesperson, Mr Dele Oyewale, in a statement, quoted Olukoyede as making the call at a two-day International Law Conference organised by Christopher University, Mowe, Ogun State. The theme of the conference was “Unexplained Wealth in the Global South: Examining the Asset Recovery and Return Trajectory.” Olukoyede said several countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Mauritius, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago, had embraced the Unexplained Wealth Orders since it came into force in 2018. Arinde Commends Kwara-Poly For Productive Service Delivery

AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq over the rice palliative which they described as a philanthropic gesture by the governor.  Speaking on behalf of the Polytechnic community, the Rector, Engr. Consequently, The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has embarked on the renovation of the Old Institute of Technology (IOT) building, which has been in existence since 1990. The renovation is part of the infrastructural development in the institution, which aims to foster academic convenience and institutional progress. The IOT building was initially awarded to Engr. Adeoye in 1990, but the project was abandoned in 1994. It was later re-awarded to another contractor during the regime of Col. Dr. Nusirat Elelu Facilitates Donation of Molecular Laboratory Equipment to UNILORIN

​ An Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary  Public Health and Preventive Medicine, University Of Ilorin, Dr. Nusirat Elelu has facilitated the donation of molecular laboratory equipment by the International Foundation For Science, Sweden to the university.  The items which were delivered on Saturday, 2nd of September, 2023 was received by the University’s Desk Officer on ranking, Dr. Ismaili Odetokun, on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Oyebisi Mistura Azeez.  Dr. Elelu, in an interview with news men, said the facility would be the first of its kind in the university and among the very few of each across the country, adding that the laboratory would help in real time disease diagnosis, control and management among human beings and domestic animals.  The associate professor furthered that the laboratory would assist in the detection, diagnosis and surveillance of diseases, and will thereby help in controlling their spread....
