KWSG Commences Maternal Health Week, Offers Free Services to Mothers, Pregnant Women and Children

In furtherance of the efforts to sustain the reduction in maternal and child mortality rates, The Kwara State Government through the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KWSPHCDA) has commenced the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Programme in all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.


The intervention which was kicked off on Monday, 4th December, 2023 will continue till 8th December, 2023 at the designated facilities to enhance access to quality health care for mothers and children for improved maternal health outcomes


Speaking on the objective of the program, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Agency (KWSPHCDA), Dr. Nusirat Elelu stated that the intervention is intended to provide consistent and high quality care for women and children, saying that the program would accelerate the Improvement of maternal health and promote equity-based health intervention.


" The objective of this intervention is to advance our abiding efforts aimed at eliminating the burden of maternal and childhood mortality to ensure the sanctity and preservation of human lives. This strategic measure which offers free healthcare services was adopted to accelerate the improvement of maternal and child health and fortify our people  against avoidable complications that precipitate deaths and other unwholesome experiences."


" It is designed to serve as a complementary approach that does not substitute, but rather, leverages existing routine activities to provide enhanced service delivery and deliver an integrated high-impact package of preventive, promotive and curative health services to mother and children."


Elelu commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq whom she said has been unrelenting in his commitment towards improving the healthcare  delivery to engender equitable access to effective and quality health services


Speaking further, the Executive Secretary explained that several important interventions will be carried out to improve maternal and child health outcomes which include antenatal care for pregnant women, deworming, distribution of iron tablets, folic acid  supplementation for women, free birth registration, vitamin A supplementation, family planning, free HIV testing,  Routine Immunisation for all vaccine preventable diseases among others.


Elelu, however, implored eligible population particularly women of child-bearing age, nursing mothers, pregnant women and under 5 children to avail themselves of the cost-effective health interventions by approaching any of the Primary Health Centres designated for the exercise.

KwaraPoly: Students commends management for new development

​ By: LUKMAN ROKEEB OLAIDE The Students of Kwara State Polytechnic has commend the effort of the rector, Dr Abdul Jimoh Muhammad over there aiming for prosperity and implore them not to relent on there administration. The Students also commends their efforts on new development in the campus such as the solar street light, the diagnostic center amongst others.  According to one of the students, Saliu Ibrahim from quantity survey opines that the management should have the monitoring teams in which will helps to curb the abuse of the school properties.  In the same vein, another student, Aliyu Muhammad from Urban and Regional Planning said the rector has really done a lot and even they are trying there best towards renewing the school. The students therefore urge the rector and school management to extend the solar street light to Yankari and other places in the institution.
