REFLECTIONS ON GOV. ABDULRAHMAN'S VISION FOR REVIVAL OF KWARA STATE POLYTECHNIC

By: Idris Olatunji Rasheed

Victory of general elections in 2019 in Kwara State as a result of ‘’Otoge’’ revolution ushered a new dimension of governance, which also had effects on the State's Polytechnic by adorning it with new leadership attire. The visionary Governor appointed a distinguished man named Engr. Dr. Jimoh Abdul Mohammed as the Rector of the Polytechnic. Wow! The atmosphere changed significantly to welcome the new brain with outstanding leadership experiences both in academics and administration.

When time fly to experience unprecedented achievement in any reputable organization, it tends to unveil some things - either positive or negative. But, the story of Kwara State Polytechnic in recent days serves as a reflection of good governance in the State.

Eng. Dr. Jimoh Abdul Mohammed has performed wonderfully in the Polytechnic; his achievements remain limelights in the history of the Polytechnic. Taking charge of the Polyethnic at a critical period, he unleashes wisdom to regulate the system and revived the Polytechnic's status on prompt payment of salaries, entitlements and even improved the staff welfare. What a game changer Rector!

Moreso, Dr. Abdul met the Polytechnic when it was very long that the staff have not been promoted and denied the rights attached to their jobs. It is very obvious that Dr. Abdul has been promoting the staff as at when due because he appreciates the spirit of dedication and hard working of the staff of the Polytechnic.

Believe me, Dr. Abdul has surpassed his predecessors in term of human capital and physical developments in the Polytechnic. He don’t need to be reminded that the Rector has changed the nature and quality of materials that thwarted, delayed or denied the Polytechnic's students which results to lack of adequate and effective institutional arrangements that cater for students’ needs, interests and aspirations. Dr. Abdul succeeded with certificate changes which restored the good image of the school and made the graduates valid in the labour market. With the support of the state Governor, he renovated 16-year-old abandoned hostel with modern materials including Solar power and adequate water for the hostelites.

It is not also an embelishment to say that Dr Abdul is entrepreneurship-oriented. As he steers the course of the Polytechnic, he established Kwara Poly Bread, Kwara Poly Water factory, Kwara Poly Radio, Kwara Poly Micro Finance Bank, Kwarapoly Diagnoses Center and many more that contribute to the revenue generation of the Polytechnic and make it easy for it to move out of recession.

Dear compatriots, let’s appreciate our outstanding Governor. Mallam. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq that dim it fit to give the Kwara State Polytechnic a befitting Rector, Engineer. Jimoh Abdul Mohammed (Ph.D); the power broker, silent achiever and vibrant engineer that work tirelessly to operate in order to touch every aspect of life of both the staff and students of Kwara State Polytechnic.

Many thanks to Governor. Mallam. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq; the action governor, for appointing the action rector in the Polytechnic. Truly, Dr Abdul is making the Polytechnic great again and restoring the lost glory of this loving first institution in Kwara State.

THE PLACE OF A MOTHER

By: Olufadi Balarabe Ayuba. Let her know the day she was born nakedly beautiful with tears of joy rolling down her stunningly soft cheeks.  Let her know the day she had enough words to say but could only speak through the inexhaustible care of her beloved mother.  Let her know those days she could not by herself take some walks down the road, but could comfortably tour the entire city tied on her mother's back. Let her know those days when she had to cry all night before she could answer nature's call, except lullabies were sung to ease her trips.  Let her know the days she couldn't bathe herself, compelling her mother to wake up early, warm the water, and ignore her refusal to take a bath every morning!  Let her know the day she couldn't do makeovers to beautify herself, as her mother took center stage to apply "Dusting Powder" to introduce the beauty of her Darling Princess to the world.  Let her know the days when all others had forsaken, except...
