FG introduces B.Sc Cybersecurity, others to varsity curriculum


The Federal Government through the National Universities Commission has introduced Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science, Information System, Software Engineering as new programmes into the Nigerian university system, The PUNCH has learnt.

This was disclosed in the breakdown of new courses exclusively made available to our corespondent in Abuja on Monday.
The PUNCH reports that the NUC had on Monday unveiled a new curriculum for universities.

The PUNCH had earlier reported how the NUC had in 2021 inaugurated a committee of experts drawn from various disciplines in Nigerian universities to create the new Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards for universities.

According to the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the new curriculum, Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, was brought about after a comprehensive review of Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards currently in use.

According to Rasheed, “The Federal Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission has embarked on radical re-engineering of curricula in Nigerian universities to meet global standards and international best practices towards preparing Nigerian graduates for relevance in the fourth revolution world economy with the skills needed for the future.

“The Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards has been revised to Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards.

“The CCMAS, provides 70 percent of what should be taught along with the expected outcome, while the university will provide 30 per cent based on their individual contextual peculiarities and characteristics.”

KwaraPoly: Students commends management for new development

​ By: LUKMAN ROKEEB OLAIDE The Students of Kwara State Polytechnic has commend the effort of the rector, Dr Abdul Jimoh Muhammad over there aiming for prosperity and implore them not to relent on there administration. The Students also commends their efforts on new development in the campus such as the solar street light, the diagnostic center amongst others.  According to one of the students, Saliu Ibrahim from quantity survey opines that the management should have the monitoring teams in which will helps to curb the abuse of the school properties.  In the same vein, another student, Aliyu Muhammad from Urban and Regional Planning said the rector has really done a lot and even they are trying there best towards renewing the school. The students therefore urge the rector and school management to extend the solar street light to Yankari and other places in the institution.
