UNDP Partners Kwara Poly To Sensitize Students On Youth Program

The United Nations Development Programs (UNDP) in collaboration with the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin, on Tuesday held a dynamic seminar to enlighten students about the internship of Young Africa Innovates Programme 2024. 


The Young Africa Innovates Programme (2023-2025) is an initiative that seeks to identify, incubate, and scale youth-led solutions to drive socio-economic development across a diverse set of sectors in Nigeria. 


The initiative which will be delivered through a partnership between Mastercard Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme will take place across 13 States in the country.


In his remark, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Jimoh Abdul Muhammad ably represented by the Director, Directorate of Students' Service, Surveyor. A. G. Aremu who shared insights on the significance of internships in shaping successful careers, urged the students to embrace the opportunity brought to them.


Addressing the audience, the UNDP Ecosystem Regional Coordinator, Mrs. Maimunah Manzuma explained that the Young Africa Innovates Programme is aimed at strengthening the capacity of local innovation ecosystems to refine and scale youth-led solutions.  

 

According to her, the program will focus on identifying 5000 entrepreneurs/innovators, a boot camp where fellows will be provided the technical support leading to 2500 solutions as well as technical and financial support to 300 ventures. 


Mrs. Maimunah stated that Innovators from Kwara are allotted with the Creative theme and Fellows with solutions to Nigeria's most complex development challenges will be empowered with technical and financial support to test, validate, and scale solutions.


In the same vein, A lecturer from the Mass Communication Department, Mr. Olufadi Balarabe Ayuba who doubled as Staff Ambassador emphasized the valuable role internships play in providing hands-on experience and enhancing employability, said the initiative will serve as a crucial bridge between academia and the professional world. 


He, therefore, urged the students to seize such opportunities to gain real-world skills and knowledge.


While commending the UNDP for the brilliant program, the SUG President, Senator Ayotunde Emmanuel Kehinde, said that the initiative will enable the students to showcase, develop, and promote their talents and creativity in and outside Nigeria. 


The event, attended by over 100 students from various disciplines, took place at Rear Admiral Lawal Auditorium located in the polytechnic premises. 


Interested individuals are advised to visit www.youngafricainnovate.ng as 1st Cohort- 2024 will come up in 7 States while the 2nd Cohort- 2025 will be held in 6 States.
