The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed has reaffirmed his administration's commitment towards ensuring that the institution turns out self-reliant graduates who are employers of labour.
Abdul stated this while receiving the Tetfund Advisory Committee Team on Skills Development who were on an assessment visit to the Polytechnic Skills Acquisition and Development Centre.
The Rector disclosed that his administration had earlier initiated the move to embark on skills acquisition to foster innovations among the staff which led to collaboration between the Polytechnic and some formal sectors that includes the Prototype Engineering and Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesha and Federal Institute of Research, Oshodi (FIRO)
Abdul lauded the intervention of Tetfund and its initiative to ensure that institutions collaborate with informal sectors which he said will expose and equip the students with necessary skills to be self reliant.
The team leader from Tetfund, Dr. Idris Musa who spoke after the on-site visits to the various informal sectors collaborated with expressed satisfaction on the level of preparedness of Kwara State Polytechnic for the programme most especially in the areas of facilities in place and the choice of collaborators.
He advised the Management to intensify efforts by ensuring that the programme kicks off soonest.
It would be recalled that the Polytechnic had earlier hosted an interactive meeting with the representatives of the various informal sectors with the aim of working out modalities towards achieving the aims and objectives of the programme.
The informal sectors selected by the Polytechnic are Honours Intercontinental Concept Limited and Rammex Technology and Engineering Works for the automobile mechanic, for Welding and Fabrication, Ola-Oluwa Engineering Construction Works and Ola-Egbon Nigeria Limited for woodworks and furniture making.
The Polytechnic is expected to commence admission into its Skills Acquisition and Development Centre in earnest.
