Buhari nominates Ahmad and Adamu as CBN deputy governors

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has written the Senate, seeking the screening and re-confirmation of the some former deputy governors of Central Bank of Nigeria. President Buhari’s request is contained in a letter read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan. Buhari sought the re-confirmation of Aisha Ahmad and Edward Adamu as deputy governors in the CBN. Similarly, in another letter, the president also wrote the Senate, seeking for the screening and subsequent confirmation of Ambassador Ayuba Ngbako from the Federal Capital Territory, as member of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Buhari, according to the President of the Senate, sent the proposal pursuant to section 121 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended for the kind consideration of the Senate.

CBN limits cash withdrawals to N100,000 weekly

The Central Bank Of Nigeria has imposed fresh cash withdrawal limits on individuals and organisations, which takes effect from January 9, 2023. According to a new memo to banks issued on Tuesday and signed by the Director of Banking Supervision, Haruna .B. Mustafa, individuals will only be able to withdraw N100,000 per week ( from over the counter, Point of Sale Machines or the Automated Teller Machines), while organisations can access N500,000 per week. Banks have also been directed to load only N200 and lower denominations into their ATM. The memo read, “Further to the launch of the redesigned naira notes by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, and in line with the cashless policy of the CBN, all deposit money banks and other financial institutions are hereby directed to note and comply with the following: “1. FG to revamp military healthcare system

The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.), has said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved plans to reform the military healthcare system. He added that a consulting firm had been hired to recommend how this could be achieved. Speaking at the Defence Health Maintenance Limited’s stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Monday, Magashi lamented that the military healthcare system had lost shape, saying only a reform could help revamp the Armed Forces medical system. 2023: Buhari urges Army to remain neutral, professional

As Nigeria prepares for the 2023 general elections, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged the Nigerian Army to remain neutral and professional in their conduct before and during the elections. Buhari stated this on Monday at International Conference Centre Kasarawa in Sokoto State while declaring the 2022 Chief of Army Staff Conference open. Insecurity Won’t Affect 2023 Census, It Will Be Fully Digitalised — NPC

The National Population Commission (NPC) has promised that the 2023 census will hold in all parts of the country despite the security challenges in some states. The commission also said the census will be fully digitalised as it has already commenced using digital maps for counting houses. Chairman of the Commission, Nasir Isa Kwarra, disclosed this in Kano when he paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero in his palace on Monday. The Federal Government through the National Universities Commission has introduced Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science, Information System, Software Engineering as new programmes into the Nigerian university system, The PUNCH has learnt. The Emir of Shonga in Kwara State, Alhaji (Dr) Haliru Yahaya Ndanusa has on Sunday called for more support and partnership for the Countryside Emerging Leaders Fellowship (CELF), describing the fellowship as an important educational intervention in Nigeria.
