On Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Bookworm Challenge 1.0—a groundbreaking event in Kwara State and Nigeria—was organized by SWOT Team Organization for Educational Development International at the NSE Branch, Tanke, Ilorin. This historic initiative aimed to foster a love for reading and encourage participants to immerse themselves in literature. The event also honored Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, the first female professor in Mass Communication in Kwara State.
This exhilarating program marked a significant milestone in Ilorin, promoting an enriching experience and expertise that serves as an invaluable asset to the intellectual community.
The event attracted a diverse community of readers, ranging from avid bookworms to newcomers embarking on their literary journeys. The program was meticulously designed to enhance participants' well-being and appreciation for literature.

The event was expertly anchored by Idris Abdulganiy Yinka, who initially set the stage before handing over to a representative of Matta Girls Foundation, who continued to guide the program until its conclusion. Esteemed guests graced the occasion with their presence and delivered remarkable talks that bridged qualitative and quantitative insights for the students.
The program featured interactive sessions that included:
- Opening Remarks: An introduction by the organizers emphasizing the importance of reading for personal and intellectual development.
- Honoree Unveiling: A special tribute in poetic form presented by two members of the SWOT Team Organization. Abdulmujeeb Muhammed crafted a poem using mathematical terms to honor Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, while Alamu Rofiat delivered a heartfelt tribute alongside her citation.
The program consisted of two phases:
1. Junior Section: Participants undertook mini-examinations based on a book titled Effective Guide to Becoming a Public Speaking Star by Basheer Luqman Olarewaju, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Hon. Muktar Shagaya.
2. Senior Section: Participants studied Second Chance by Comrade Abdullateef Ishowo and engaged in book discussions across various genres, including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and historical works.
After both sections completed their tasks under the scrutiny of a panel of judges, another segment of poetic tributes took place. This included performance by Sanni Arewa Habeebullah (Erudite), who delivered an impressive heartfelt tribute, and Aliyu Abdulwahab Sacrosanctity, who showcased his creativity through Arabic poetry accompanied by an English translation.
Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi expressed her genuine surprise and appreciation for these poetic tributes from the youth of our organization. She shared insights about her journey as a public speaker and encouraged participants to discover their talents while setting personal reading goals beyond their usual interests. Comrade Abdullateef Ishowo also contributed valuable insights into the impact of books and reading habits.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and community members alike. The guest speakers provided valuable expertise through personal experiences and inspiring messages about the transformative power of reading.

Winners received trophies, medals, school bags, and exercise books sponsored by MATTA GIRLS FOUNDATION. All participants were awarded certificates of participation following the announcement of winners.
